I am so pleased that the Howe-Manning Elementary School is currently registered to particpate in the Massachusetts Children's Book Awards program. Motivating students to read is so important; and the MCBA progam helps to achieve this goal by empowering students and giving them a voice in what they like to read! This state-wide reading program is sponsored by Salem State University and is designed for students in grades 4, 5 and 6. Here's how it works! Every spring, a master list of 25 AWESOME books is nominated by a selection committee of teachers, librarians, and publishers. Students must read 5 books from the list. They then have the opportunity to vote for their favorite. The ballots are tallied and sent to Salem State University. The winner will be announced on April 1st.
The Howe-Manning Library, as well as the Flint Public Library, have multiple copies of each title on the list. Click on the following link to access the 2012-2013 Master List from Salem State University.
