The American Library Association recently announced the winners of the Caldecott, Newbery, and Sibert Awards for 2013.

The Caldecott Medal is awarded to the children's book with the most distinguished illustrations.  It was awarded to Jon Klassen for This is Not My Hat; the story of a small fish who commits a big wrong with dire consquences!

The 2013 Newbery Medal is awarded to the author of the  most distinguished contribution to children's literature.

It was awarded to Katherine Applegate for The One and Only Ivan.  This thought-provoking book tells the story of an artistic gorilla who lives a caged life in a shopping center and hardly ever misses the jungle.  Then, he meets a baby elephant who helps to change his view of the world.
